Why?
The world is changing and the development is disrupted by global forces, where new technologies within Digitalisation, Electrification and Autonomous will be some areas that will enable sustainable solutions for the future.
One essential key for the development to succeed is: People. Engineers are leading the way for new technologies, ways of working and methods in this journey. To support people to find their inner drive, it requires inspiration and motivation.
We believe that role models are key for motivation and increased self-esteem, for people to believe in them self. Role models can inspire and motivate people to see new opportunities that exists in the society and in life. By awarding the ”Role model of the year”, we want to highlight all engineers who lead the way, dare to challenge and act as good examples for current and future generations.
Who?
Role models are more than the sum of all it ́s actions. They exude something extra, they stand out from the crowd and inspire others to succeed. This awards will be given to the contribution that leads the way for the engineer profession through curiosity, dare to challenge, think outside the box, inspire and motivate other people in current and future generations.
It can be someone or some who is visible a lot or someone that is not, but the result and potential impact is. You as an Engineer could be junior or senior, any role and work within any industry. You have identified an area, small or big and created a format that gives a positive effect on the society and/or it ́s own operations, with a broad reach.

The Jury’s motivation:
At Scania, we believe that role models are an important source of motivation and self-confidence. Through the Grand Prize for Engineering – Role Model of the Year, we want to highlight all the engineers who lead the way, challenge and act as good examples for current and future generations. We are proud to award the prize to two passionate individuals who inspire by sharing their personalities and everyday life, showing that engineering is human and achievable for everyone. They strengthen the confidence of those who have chosen this path and help to increase the interest in a niche that generally struggles to reach women. Thanks to the podcast format, their inspiration also has the potential to have an exponential impact. By awarding them the prize, we hope that they will become role models for even more people.
